A Guide to a Balanced Student Life and University Housing

Getting many things right in life depends on balance. And to get through your student experience and enjoy it as much as possible, there’s no reason why aiming for this balance now is a bad thing. Here are some tips and ideas to help all students to try and get the right balance from week to week, to make their time more healthy, less stressful, and more fun.

 

Staying Fit

Exercise may not be so appealing to everyone, but there are plenty of ways to make it fun. Simply playing a bit of football with mates for example is a good way to stay in shape. Exercise also doesn’t have to be excessively strenuous either; the fact that going for a walk is one way of keeping fit demonstrates this. What does need to be remembered though is that whatever exercise you do needs to be regular and of a substantial amount.




Healthy Diet

Maybe you won’t want to hear it but eating and drinking healthily really needs to be taken seriously. While it’s easy and fun to have a lot of takeaways or eat the most tempting thing from supermarkets, having a balanced diet and limiting your intake of food and drink that doesn’t help your body is very important. What’s great though is once you start to make the effort to do this, you should start noticing that you feel better as well.

 

Socialising

Socialising offers us some benefits and is very positive for our mental health. And although to some the idea of student living and socialising go hand-in-hand, it is easy sometimes to become isolated from people without meaning to. Doing what you can then to keep in contact and build friendships with fellow students is highly worthwhile and should make your university experience more enjoyable also.

 

Fun and Relaxation

Ultimately, this is your journey and you need to enjoy it or feel as though it is worthwhile to you as a person. Therefore using the free time you have to relax and have fun is something that shouldn’t be overlooked, especially as it can also help to improve your levels of achievement in other areas of the university. Whether you want to pursue your hobbies, play sports or go out with friends, spending your free time in a relaxing and enjoyable fashion is a sure way to improve yourself and your uni’ experience all-round.



 

Mindfulness

This is something you will probably be highly aware of through the media, as it affects all of us. And for students, mindfulness is just as relevant as it is for anyone else. With the pressures that come with exams and assignments, it’s especially important to pay attention to your mental health. You may already have some idea of what is good for your mental well-being, but it’s a good idea to find out more from the NHS and other sources, and if you’re struggling, seek help from a doctor.

 

Moderate Spending and Budgeting

A part of getting your student life in balance is getting your finances in balance. While it’s not a particularly enjoyable thing to do, sorting out your finances and trying to budget is worth doing. In the long run, doing this will help you stay more relaxed about money coming in and going out, and may help avoid money being spent wastefully.



 

Organising Your Work

As a student, studying is arguably the priority of everything you do during your time at university. If however, you find the workload a little overwhelming, then organising how you tackle it may be a useful strategy. By employing some kind of schedule or plan and giving yourself some guidance when you are struggling to focus on work when you need to, you may get more done and with less stress. By getting a little more organised you might find that rushing, panicking to complete assignments or a slow, tiring slog when working at the wrong time might become a thing of the past.
